Dobson Rejects the Hype

I guess James Dobson ain’t with Fred:

Isn’t Thompson the candidate who is opposed to a Constitutional amendment to protect marriage, believes there should be 50 different definitions of marriage in the U.S., favors McCain-Feingold, won’t talk at all about what he believes, and can’t speak his way out of a paper bag on the campaign trail? He has no passion, no zeal, and no apparent ‘want to.’ And yet he is apparently the Great Hope that burns in the breasts of many conservative Christians? Well, not for me, my brothers. Not for me!

Ouch.

On her show today, conservative talk radio host Laura Ingraham mentioned an < HREF="http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5hmMAuwqXONV6giFylwbgSh-58_fA" REL="nofollow" TITLE="AP article Dobson/Thompson 9-20-07"><>Associated Press article<><> that included this blockbuster comment by < HREF="http://focusonthefamily.org" REL="nofollow" TITLE="Focus on the Family"><>Focus on the Family<><>‘s Dr. James Dobson about Republican presidential candidate <>< HREF="http://www.cafepress.com/bobmccarty/3397419" REL="nofollow" TITLE="Fred Thompson™"><>Fred Thompson<><><>:—– “Isn’t Thompson the candidate who is opposed to a Constitutional amendment to protect marriage, believes there should be 50 different definitions of marriage in the U.S., favors McCain-Feingold, won’t talk at all about what he believes, and can’t speak his way out of a paper bag on the campaign trail?”Reading further into the article, she highlighted this sentence:—– In a private e-mail obtained Wednesday by The Associated Press, Dobson accuses the former Tennessee senator and actor of being weak on the campaign trail and wrong on issues dear to social conservatives.Next, she raised the issue of who Dobson might support instead of Thompson and went on to list possible Republican candidates.Regretfully, she failed to mention the candidate most likely, in my opinion, to receive Dobson’s endorsement: < HREF="http://www.cafepress.com/bobmccarty.164287480" REL="nofollow" TITLE="Huckabeeliever™ SL"><>Mike Huckabee<><>, winner of the recent < HREF="http://www.afa.net/debate/" REL="nofollow" TITLE="Value Voter 2008 Presidential Debate"><>Value Voter 2008 Republican Presidential Debate Straw Poll<><>, which I wrote about in a < HREF="http://bobmccarty.wordpress.com/2007/09/17/mike-huckabee-wins-value-voter-straw-poll/" REL="nofollow" TITLE="BMW Huckabee Wins Value Voter 9-17-07"><>post<><> Monday.Help me remind Laura that the former Baptist pastor-turned Arkansas governor is the Republican best-suited to receive Dobson’s presidential endorsement. 2. Hi Bob,From everything I know, Huckabee seems to be a decent guy, but to be honest, I don’t really consider him a serious presidential contender. He’s got a few big-govt. tendencies too many, and I can’t imagine him coming even close to edging out Rudy, Mitt or Fred. As for me, I think the best, most realistic hope for conservatism in general, and the Culture War in particular, lies with Mitt Romney, for reasons I lay out here:http://rightcal.blogspot.com/search/label/romney

  3. *Yawn* everybody knows Mitt used to be pro-choice. But so was Fred. Unlike the buffoons over at Fred File, most of us are actually honest enough to admit our candidate’s flaws.Better luck next time, Michael.
