The First Right

We hold these truths to be self-evident; that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of happiness—US Declaration of Independence

So reads the founding document of our nation. The unalienable right to life can be thought of as the First Right of our Republic, because without it, no other right can be exercised. Thus, protecting that right is the paramount duty of our government and society. And in order to best fulfill that duty, we must carefully determine exactly what constitutes life, and when we have it.

In this troubled age, when respect for life remains in doubt even within the Republican Party, there is no more important cause than standing up for America’s soul and turning back the callous disregard for the innocent which has infected our nation like a cancer in the past decades. In this upcoming five-part essay, I shall attempt to articulate both the case for life and its proper role in the GOP & conservative movement as comprehensively as possible.

Conservative Standards 
I’m curious as to where you stand on the death penalty.I’m also interested in whether you believe in an afterlife, and if growing to adulthood increases one’s probability of attaining it.

I have conflicting views on the death penalty. On the one hand, if it could be definitively shown that it deters violent crime, I’d endorse it as the pro-life side. On the other hand, I’m not convinced that such a deterrent effect has been shown, and I feel that killing should only be done to remove a threat to innocent people.That said, I do think it’s important to keep in mind that killing someone for evil actions is in a very different category than killing someone for being in a vulnerable stage of development.Yes, I believe in heaven & hell, and no, I don’t believe age is a requirement for entry into heaven.
