Welcome! My name is Calvin Freiburger, and this is where I report and comment on news, politics, morality, philosophy, religion, and culture, and have some fun along the way.

Born in Wisconsin, I graduated from Fond du Lac High School in 2006. (They, uh, don’t like me very much.) I graduated from Hillsdale College with a degree in Political Science in 2011. From October 2009 to May 2011, I was also a featured writer for the David Horowitz Freedom Center’s NewsRealBlog.  From September to December 2011, I interned for Hillsdale’s Allan P. Kirby, Jr. Center for Constitutional Studies & Citizenship in Washington, DC. In October 2011, I signed on as a regular contributor to Live Action’s blog.

I approach things from a rock-solid conservative perspective, with my philosophy firmly rooted in Judeo-Christian principles and the Founding Fathers’ understanding of human liberty and the role of government, coupled with a strong belief in the importance of keeping an independent mind and a critical eye. There’s not much that makes my blood boil more than dishonesty, hypocrisy, demagoguery, and arguments made in bad faith.

To your right, you’ll find a wide range of links to news outlets, the Right’s best commentators, conservative think tanks and advocacy groups on a wide range of issues, media bias watchdogs, religious thought, charities supporting American soldiers & their families, bipartisan research tools, grassroots activists, places to buy conservative books and gear, fellow bloggers, and humor. All good-faith comments (as well as hostile, up to a point) will be published, though I may not respond (work comes first). I reserve the right to reject comments, and ban commenters, for any of the following:

– Demonstrably & willfully lying about debate opponents
– Bigotry of any kind
– Deliberately wasting my time by ignoring arguments and opting to simply level insults instead of rebuttals

  6. You say that you reserve the right to ban 9/11 Truthers, Birthers, and Ron Paul supporters whenever you choose. Would this be because you don't like those topics, because you think the truth is already fully known about the first two, you think it is contrary to the good order of the nation to talk about these topics, or just what? It seems to be a strangely inconsistent position for one who talks about having a rock-solid conservative perspective (from which we might infer a dedication to truth). Would you elaborate, please?

I typically do debate them for a while when they show up, but they have gained a (well-deserved, in my experience) reputation for dishonesty, ad hominem, and willful disregard of facts that usually serves no better purpose than to waste time. If, say, a Paulite wants to engage me on the facts of something I write, I'll give him a chance. But if it's just the same old talking points and conspiracy-mongering, I'm not gonna waste my time.

    I hope you don’t mind the interruption…I noticed that you write on piltically conservative issues and thought you might be interested in this as a WI resident. I really enjoy reading your blog and also appreciate few things more than a well-reasoned argument. I hoped you would let me know how to send you additional information about the current ban on WI mining, and opportunity to get it lifted. Thanks!

    The Skinny:
    This month lawmakers have the chance to restore Wisconsin’s economy, adding thousands of new jobs, roads and better schools by lifting the 1998 mining moratorium. The current law prohibiting the issuing of new mining permits. The new bill outlines new statutes for a reasonable permitting process and timeline without compromising environmental integrity.

    What that means for you and fellow Wisconsin residents is more jobs, a positive economic impact for the state and prosperity for its residents.

    If passed, Wisconsin would benefit by:
    · Creating 5,000 direct mining jobs, and thousands in ancillary jobs in the service and manufacturing industry
    · Increasing employment by 25%
    · $2 billion in short-term economic impact, and $600 million in total annually
    · Generating $17.5 million in annual state and local tax revenue over a 50-year period
